Previous FBI head James the ex-FBI chief has entered an innocent plea to giving untrue testimony to congressional representatives and hindering a lawmaking procedure.

The former director's lawyer submitted the response acting as his counsel in a US district court in Alexandria, Virginia on Wednesday morning.

Patrick Fitzgerald stated he would seek to have the case terminated for several reasons including that his the accused, a detractor of former President Trump, was being targeted.

Mr Comey was formally accused just days after Donald Trump urged his top legal official to proceed against him.

Legal Proceedings

During the hearing on Wednesday, Comey's lawyer the legal representative informed the magistrate they intended to submit multiple petitions to dismiss the case before a trial, claiming the prosecution was vindictive and that a government lawyer was improperly assigned to handle the legal matter.

Mr Comey's proceedings was first managed by a Virginia prosecutor, who left his position under scrutiny from the former president after his examination into an additional political adversary - New York Attorney General Letitia James - was unable to initiate prosecution.

Judicial Environment

The former director appeared in optimistic frame of mind as he entered the courtroom on mid-week, conversing with his attorneys and being lighthearted. He was supported by his spouse, Mrs Failor and daughter Maureen Comey, a US lawyer who the former government recently fired.

Following the reading to the judge read his legal protections and the pair of allegations against him in court on mid-week, James Comey was asked if he understood the charges.

"I do your honour. Thank you," he stated to the proceedings.

Previous Events

James Comey was the FBI Director from 2013-2017 and was dismissed about four months into the former president's initial presidency as president. At the time, Mr Comey was leading an examination into Russian election interference and whether there were any relationships between the Russian government and the election effort.

Throughout his leadership, the director sparked a backlash from liberal politicians when he declared just immediately preceding the national vote that he was investigating political contender the candidate's use of a private email server. Indictments against the candidate were not filed, leading to criticism from the Republican party as well.

Ongoing Accusations

Government attorneys allege Mr Comey lied to Congress during a congressional hearing in recent years when he was being examined about both the email probe as well as the election interference investigation. They allege he deceived the Senate by saying he had not approved someone at the FBI to release to media organizations information about the agency probes.

Legal representatives also allege the defendant of "improperly attempting to affect, obstruct and slow" the committee by making false statements to it.

Individual Responses

In a video the former director published to his online platform after he was accused, he said he was not guilty and accused Donald Trump of acting like a "dictator".

"We have been aware for years that there are costs to challenging the former president," he stated. "We refuse to live on our knees."
"I have done nothing wrong," he stated further. "Therefore proceed with a legal proceeding."

The charges against Mr Comey came after Donald Trump published on social media demanding his attorney general, Pam Bondi, charge the former director and others.
